Tami Holm

I am 37 years old and have AS.  I was first diagnosed a year ago after dealing with arthritis pain for 20 years.  My first doctor told me to take an asprin a day and I would be fine. Since then I moved a got a new doctor who ran test after test.  This became my normal.  In 2002, while pregnant with my first daughter, I seemed to not have pain!  I felt great and things seemed normal.  But slowly the pain crept back and after the birth of my second daughter in 2006, the pain was constant once more.  In 2007 I gave up on baby clothes with buttons and shoes with laces.
Finally, by the end of 2007 I could no longer work.  I was a piano teacher and truly loved my job.  It caused a lot of strain on my marriage as none of his family could understand my pain.  So, by 2009, my husband left me and our daughters.
I was sent to a specialist and diagnosed with PsA in 2010.  I was put on Naproxen and Tylenol 3’s.  After more blood work and x-rays my doctors agreed that I have AS.  I am now on Methotrexate and Humira as well as the others mentioned.  I am tired all the time and the pain never stops, but that’s my life!
I have made so many friends along the way and feel good about myself!  I am happy!  This is not the life I would have chosen for myself, but it was the life that was chosen for me!
