My name is Sherry Buchanan I am 39 years old married to a wonderfully understanding husband with two children. I live in Washington State. I have the HLA B27 gene I was finally diagnosed with Ankylosing spondylitis in 2010. The reason I say finally is because I got in a car wreck in 1995 and broke three vertebrae in my upper back and from my understanding the vertebrae fused very quickly. So from 1996 to 2001 I was trying to figure out what was wrong with me and why I was having pain throughout my body which no Dr. Understood. Which was very frustrating. Finally in 2001 they did some blood work and found out that I was a HLA B27 positive but still never gave me a diagnosis. So in 2001 to 2010 I went through more tests, more xray and more doctors. Finally 2010 I was diagnosed with Ankylosing spondylitis, degenerative disc disease and fibromyalgia. I was really happy to get some kind of diagnosis and some answers to why I was in so much pain.
Now that I’ve found a really good Dr. and she has put me on humira, methotrexate, Folic acid, vitamin D, tramadol, flexeril and let’s throw a little bit of blood pressure medicine in their too. I soon should be feeling better. I am so glad that I have found a support group it helps me know that I’m not alone. I will always stay strong as long as I can. This disease will not get the best of me.
