My story starts as a kid having very loose joints that gave out easily, hips would pop out of place, ankles and knees would buckle and hyper extend, and almost everyday I would have headaches. Then in my teen years I started having really bad neck and jaw pain as well. Many Dr’s treated me as if I had strained muscles or just common pains and gave me muscle relaxers and Vicodin which only made me lethargic and did nothing for pain. Once in my 20’s my full back was excruciating and that came with what my Dr called sciatica. Later I found out it was pain in the sacroiliac that ran down my leg. 2 painful pregnancies later, and 2 surgeries to fix cervical cancer I then had my eyes flare up. My dr said it was pink eye and after 2 weeks of treatment with worsening results I was sent to the ophthalmologist where I was told I had a severe case of iritis. It was then that we realized what we were dealing with. MRI confirmed AS at age 30.
NSAIDS kept the pain to a 7 for almost 7 years until I had the worst flare of my life,so I agreed to start humira, boy I am glad I did, I was terrified to take a biologic but I realize now that life is more important than hurting so much. I’ve been on humira over a year and now the affects are not working as much as they were so I think it’s time to try a new biologic.
Thank you for listening to my story.
