“SNAP…CRACKLE…POP” are the sounds I hear every morning when I wake up. No it’s not from an old bed frame or a cheap mattress. It’s the sounds each of my joints make when I roll over and plant my feet on the ground. In October 2008 when I was only 20 years old, I was diagnosed. It has been a roller coaster of a journey. There would be days when I felt so betrayed by my own body that I didn’t want to go on any longer. I have over come many obstacles since October 2008. Today I strive to be the best person I can be despite this debilitating autoimmune disease. Now I like to think of myself as a super hero in my own imaginary world because I can do amazing things like predict when bad weather is coming or because one day I feel on top of the world (even with AS pain) and then the next be stuck in bed all day because my whole body is stiff. Yes life is hard, some days are harder than others, but some how I manage.
