Joel

Hi my name is Joel. I have been diagnosed with A.S. since 2009. I have a great Rheum. doctor who has me on remicade. I am 57 years old and still work, although my neck inhibits me from doing some of the things I used to.

This beautiful apple was created especially for Joel by Jenna Dye Visscher

Joel was nominated by his wife: His wife said the following, “i nominate my husband, joel kuykendall. he was diagnosed 3 years ago with ankylosing spondylitis. his neck has fused and his knee is bad. he rarely complains and works hard every day, on sept 14th he had emergency aortic valve replacement and a single bypass. today (oct 10) he walked 25 minutes and peddled 30 minutes on his foot peddler. he is building his stamina to return to work, in spite of having to cange his remicade treatments until full recovery. i have been married to him for 36 years and he has been by my side each and every day. we lost our son, dallas, 2 years ago, and i couldn’t have done it without joel. he is strong, sensitive and humbly grateful for the second chance he has been given. he is my miracle man…”

  1. Dear Joel,
Thank you so much for being a part of my vision.
    Sincerely Cookie

  2. i had emergency valve replacement surgery and bypass 2 weeks ago. i have found, after the fact, that this may be a side effect of AS..glad i survived the surgery and am recovering well. hope this won’t be a problem in the future, as it is fixed…be aware of the symptoms and get yourself into the hospital FAST….
