Ella Gibbs
I was diagnosed with AS 8 years ago. It took 3 years to get a diagnosis. I was tested for MS, for carpal tunnel, etc. One doctor even thought was all in my head. Finally a conclusive diagnosis when the blood test came back positive with HLA-B27. In the beginning I was able to get by on NSAIDS & OTC pain reliever. But now, my AS has reared it’s ugly head in full force. I’m now on sulfasalizine & methotrexate plus loratab for the pain, plus a variety of other meds for other ailments.
The AS has caused 3 episodes of Iritis in the last 2 years and has also now lead to mitral valve prolapse. I’m either missing work because of the side effects of the meds or because of the pain. But at 36 years of age, I still have a lot more living to do.
So I’ll deal with the bad days but I’ll take those good days and live them to the fullest with my wonderfully understanding family.
