Chris Becker

We are facing a hardship with our family. My husband has been sick since May of 2011. He has been to the ER 13 times, hospitalized 28 times, and was at the Mayo Clinic for 2 weeks. He has been diagnosed with Ankylosing Spondytis Arthritis,Fibromyalgia, IBS, Depression/Anxiety, Sphincter of Oddi dysfunction, memory fog, degenerative disc disease, and chronic pain and fatigue syndrome. He has had operations, procedures, and medication which are not helping. This past March, he resigned from his company, 1-800-Got-Junk?, that he has been with for a little over 10 years due to his health. With him doing this, it took away our higher salary and a company vehicle.

He currently uses a walking cane and has a hospital bed for home.

We have a son who is 7 years old and is in first grade at Immanuel Lutheran in Crystal Lake. He has sensory processing disorder for 3 years. Immanuel has been a blessing to us as he is doing well and works with him. Another blessing being he is learning about our Savior Jesus. The school has been gracious to us and giving us a discount off tuition. We continue to take him to Milestones in Crystal Lake three times a week for additional work with his sensory processing disorder. He is also going to a faith based counseling to help with his hurting. The hurt of his daddy sick and mommy always gone working. We will do whatever it takes for him to have a normal 7 year old life.

I work a full-time job Monday-Friday and was going to school to become my dream job of a nurse. Now, I continue to work my full-time job but stopped going to school. I got a second job which I work Saturday and Sunday too.

We have applied for social security disability for my husband and it could take months to years to get it approved. My husband would rather work for his money but he just cannot work.

We always lived within our means and my income I bring home each month is still short each month. We even did a loan modification and cut back more on bills. We might still lose our home.

Our credit cards are maxed; we used a loan to help us out for a month, and try to get cash advanced.

We have checked resources with McHenry County and they cannot help with limited funds.

We are trying so hard to get my husband to be healthy, my son to overcome his disorder. There is a lot of stress, frustration, and lack of hope at home.

We continue to try and be positive. We pray for all suffering with AS and other issues.

Thank you, Maryann & Chris Becker

  1. Dear Chris,
Thank you so much for sharing your story with us.
    Sincerely Cookie

  2. I tell you what! This disease is getting the best of me. Meds are not helping much and keep trying new ones. I have more diseases and this is just hard. Being positive right now is not happening!
