I am 33 and from Worcestershire, UK. My symptoms started when I was pregnant with my first child three years ago. Doctors dismissed my symptoms as spd/pregnancy related but I always felt it was something more. It started with my left SI joint, it was always inflamed and painful, upper and lower back pain,  then came the morning stiffness. That symptom none of the doctors could explain!! After I had my baby and things didnt settle down I pushed for them to do tests or something, anything to find out what was wrong with me. By this time I felt they were giving up on me so I started doing my own research. I had tried so many painkillers, nsaids, muscle relaxants, seen physios and chiropractors, tried accupuncture and nothing gave much relief! I googled morning back muscle stiffness expecting hundreds of ailments to come up but actually there was only a couple! I read about AS and for the first time in three years I felt relief and hope! I knew that I had AS!! I went back to the doctor armed with my new information and the first thing they said to me was “you are a woman so it cant be AS”. Unbelievable hey?! I saw two more doctors and they all said the same thing!! After much pushing by me they eventually did a back xray and mri. They showed degenerative disc disease and bulging discs but no signs of fusing yet. Based on severity of symptoms we have agreed it must be.  I now have a referral to a Rheumatologist who I am seeing in two days time. This has been a long lonely battle, there are times when I feel so alone in this. Fingers crossed I finally get the treatment I need!
