Amy Tocco

Face 1182Hi! My name is Amy Tocco! I have had A.S since I was 11years old. I am 47 and all I can say is after many long years being in a wheel chair at such a young age was quite traumatic! I had to have bilateral hip replacements in my 20’s and between all the Meds I took I had ulcers and countless illnesses due to my immune system being weak from the A.S! All of what I went through isn’t as heartbreaking as seeing my 13 year old being diagnosed with the same disease! She went from Captain of Cheerleading to being wheelchair bound last year and
needing to be homeschooled for 5 months! It took many months of hunting Drs to help diagnose her! Finally a Rheumatologist in NYC diagnosed her with AS! Because she didn’t have the gene factor and elevated sederate and CBC as well as X-rays no one was able to properly diagnose her! I advocated and pleaded to have the Drs take into account I have AS isn’t it obvious she inherited it from me!
Well after putting her on TNT Blocker she could walk and today can Cheer and be the teen she missed so much! All I can say is I’m so thankful they have these new medicines today they didn’t have when I was young and I’m blessed that she’s doing wonderful! I am so appreciate you have a site where I can relate with so many others who have AS and can share our stories! Thanks Cookie, God found a
calling for you to give others a place to go to feel connected and understood from such a trying, debilitating disease physically and emotionally!
