Hi, Im Ammar Naeem from Pakistan. I am 24, my disease began when i was 8 but it wasnt diagnosed till i was 14 after my brother was diagnosed. When the disease began my both hip joints hurt so much that I was bed ridden for 3 weeks. I still remember the extreme pain I felt when I tried to sleep at night and cried myself to sleep from exhaustion.
At the age of 9,one day during a severe flare-up i was trying to walk to my parents bedroom to watch tv (had to skip school that whole month), and my left hip was stiff and even if i tried to move it an inch it hurt like hell. at that time i made a promise to never stop no matter what. for 15 years i have never let my AS be my weakness and never stopped from trying to get what i want.
About three years ago my doc started me on enbrel, since then its like i have gained a new life, my spinal and hip fusion has been progressing a snail speed compared to before.
I have recently completed my MBA and hopefully one day will do my doctorate as well. I have met atleast 2 other AS patients and I found that they too havent made AS their weakness and live life to fullest.
It has been hard on my family if not physically than emotionally. i dont think i would have made it this far if it wasnt for my MOM, Dad and my best friends Ahmed, Zeeshan, and Abdullah. Thank you so much for everything.
