Alisa Tanner
My name is Alisa Tanner. I was diagnosed with AS in 1990 after suffering with Crohns disease for five years. I was only 32 years old with two small children. I remember how difficult is was to just function everyday much less care for my girls. The fusing in my neck is pretty much done and I have lost all mobility. I turn like a Robot. My lower back and spine are still in the process of fusing even after all these years. Now having lots of pain in my chest cavity. Guess it never ends. But I have found so much comfort in knowing I am not alone in this battle.
I love and appreciate all the thoughts and encouragement from the Faces of AS and Apples for AS along with other AS sites. I no longer have to suffer alone. I may have AS but I will not let it define who I am. I am a fighter and with God’s help I will fight this battle with everything that is in me. I am praying for a cure so no one will ever have to go through this pain but until then raising awareness of this horrible disease will help. I am grateful today that I have the energy to do what i need to do to take care of myself and even a little extra most days to play with my grandbabies.
This is who I am.
