A.S. Face 2186: Michelle Myers

I was diagnosed with AS 5 years ago took ten years to find out what was wrong with me. I had my first symptoms in my early twenties just woke up one morning and couldn’t walk!! For years I had went to the doctors where I was treated like I was seeking pain medication. I finally found a doctor who actually listened to me!! I was glad when I finally got diagnosed so I could prove that it just wasn’t in my head!!

  1. Dear Michelle,
Thank you so much for sharing your story with us.
    Sincerely Cookie

  2. Welcome to the community. I remember too well going through the same process. They tell you you may have strained a muscle or lifted too much or the wrong way. And that’s not it at all. I had one Dr. when I lived in FL that had AS and he was the only Dr that understood what I meant by it hurts.
My symptoms started when I was still in school between14 to 18 years old.
When I turned 18 it hit me hard. But there was nothing wrong. Haha,
Keep as positive attitude as you possibly can and try your best to stay as active as you can. It will pay off in the long run. I still hurt like H##l. But I have seen others that don’t move as well.
I wish you the best of luck and don’t let anyone tell you there’s nothing wrong.
Female’s get it just like males do.

  3. Michelle I’m sooo happy you found a
    rheumatologist that listens to you.
That is a huge part in trying to control
    the disease.
So many Doctors need to be informed
    that AS is real.
Cookie has brought us all together and
she herself is an AS WARRIOR.
She keeps plugging away and no doubt
    will reach her goal.
I wish you both healthy blessings from
    Wisconsin.
