A.S. Face 2138: Terji Beder

Face 2138

After being diagnosed with AS in January 2017 it took me 23 months to experience my first moment without pain. It only lasted for about four hours and then the pain took off again.

I think it is very important to spread awareness of AS so that people get a better understanding of what the situation is with us AS sufferers. I am therefore always trying to be as open as possible regarding my condition.

Even though I live with this pain every day I find it impossible to explain to people how I feel. I somehow can’t express what I’m feeling in my own words. So instead I draw and write poetry to express what mere words can’t grasp which also serves as self-therapy channeling my madness.

On April 15th we saw the burning of the Notre Dame cathedral in Paris. While watching this tragedy on television these few words hit me which might be relatable of some of you readers. I hope you enjoy the poem.

All the best, Terji Beder, the Faroe Islands

  3. Hi Terri Welcome & Thankyou for your story & poème of Notre Dame , I’m English living in France for 32 years so your poème went straight to my heart. Take care Trish

    • Dear Trish
I don’t really know what to say. The burning of Notre Dame was a tragedy which hit us all and seeing that it was the home of the humpback it seemed to be even more relatable somehow. It’s probably a bit silly seeing that Quasimodo isn’t a real character and him not even having AS. We just have to remember not to exclude ourselves in our church tower I suppose.
Thank you for your reply and I wish you all the best.

  4. ‘Your Islands’ look amazing !!! A peaceful place to fight AS .

    • Yes they are beautiful and definitely worth a visit. If you choose to go then don’t hesitate to contact me.
      Take care

  5. Terji I totally understand and can totally
relate to your poem. Your so right that it’s
hard to explain how you physically, mentally
and emotionally feel. Unless you truly have A.S…..NOBODY really understands your
    everyday world.
    Maybe Dan Reynolds can work
some of your words , into a song for those
    of us with A.S.
    He already has the thunder/lightning.
Now he can use firey crumbing shell of
Notre Dame , the shells of our bodies
    failing us.
Just keep trying to give your inner soul ,
some peace. Easier said than done.
I have yet to put my A.S. Face out there but
found Cookies site over 5 years ago.
I feel like I’m sooo all alone , many
many days but when I come to this site
and see all the other faces , along with
their stories, then I know I’m not alone.

    • I’m glad that you liked my poem. Unfortunately, I think Reynolds would be quite hard to reach. But this I don’t know of course.

Imagine Dragons also have the song Believer which I am pretty sure is about AS as well. That is what I get out of it at least. Try finding the music-video on Youtube.

I hope that my input to this site was rewarding for you and I also hope that you one day decide to put your face out here. If you chose to do so, please let me know

      All the best, t.b.
