A.S. Face 2021: Christie Theriault

Here’s a synopsis of my story: I’m 25, but everyone tells me I’m too young to have so many health problems. Apparently my body disagrees – at 22 I got ovarian cancer and at 25 I was diagnosed with AS. I’m in pain every day but my life is worth living. I’m lucky. I have an amazing husband, my family is so supportive, a great place to live, and my job isn’t too shabby either. But like everyone else, I definitely have my bad days and I’m am definitely not always as optimistic as I seem here. I wish people would understand that age does not determine what your body and the world will put you through. AS isn’t just back pain, it’s not just arthritis, and it sure as hell isn’t just me being lazy. Invisible illnesses are still real illnesses, we fight and struggle just like anyone else with a chronic illness. We are all warriors in our own way.
