A.S. Face 1733: Heather
I was diagnosed with AS when I was 40. I had been having symptoms since my early twenties. They were very mild in the beginning and gradually got worse. It wasn’t until my late thirties that I started having severe back pain. I started missing work. I got hooked up with a pain specialist. I tried everything physical therapy, water therapy, chiropractors, walking, at home exercise, massage, a tens unit…….etc. nothing helped. I finally got preferred to a Rheumatologist. This is who diagnosed me with ankylosing spondylitis. I am now getting the help I need. The pain is still with me. I think it always will be. I also developed fibromyalgia. This is also a very painful disease. I am a fighter. I am in constant pain but I try hard not to let it get me down.
I will not AS define who I am. I am Heather
