A.S. Face 1540: Serita
My name is Serita. I’m 26 and have had symptoms of AS since I was 19. I wasn’t diagnosed until last year when I rebounded after being on a steroids I went from walking on my own to walking as a two assist with a walker. I had a career and my toddler when I got very sick and I lost my career as of now. I fight every day to keep myself going. My daughter is my life and he is what keeps me going. After trying different medications I now am in the hospital with tachycardia and asthma probably related to my AS and/or medications I’m on for it. This disease has taken a lot from me, but I still try to keep on fighting. And when you have AS you do have to fight. You have to advocate and educate at every turn because we don’t have commercials or awareness movements. We have to constantly explain why you’re 26 with a cane. I pray every day that I will go into remission or they will find a cure. God bless anyone with a chronic illness, as they know he heaviness that comes with it.
