A.S. Face 1374: Heather McCollim
AS – LOVE COURAGE HOPE FAITH AND STRENGTH
I am a face of AS. I am HLA-B27 positive and was diagnosed about 2 years ago after nearly 15 years of pain and struggles. I have tried multiple biologics with no a due and now just follow pain management because my rheumatologist told me my case is “too difficult”. I am one of many that have AS from my mother’s side of the family but keep moving foward and try to stay positive. I love helping others and try to put a smile on everyone’s face I come across. My quote is and always will be, “Never judge a book by its cover for you never know what may be inside, just like those of us who suffer daily from AS. Always treat others with respect for you may never know what they may be dealing with and one unkind word could potentially push someone to their breaking point. So just because someone may look fine on the outside does not mean they are on the inside so always be kind for that one simple act of kindness may be the only one they receive and they will never forget it” So as a AS warrior I wish and hope respect kindness strength love and courage to all of us. Stay positive and when you are having a bad moment just reach out to a grouo we are always here, here to help lend and ear and a positive word.
Thanks

Dear Heather,
Thank you so much for sharing your story with us.
Sincerely Cookie
Thank you for your story. Sounds like your rheumatologist has given up on you, I recommend that you find another rheumatologist.
I did get a second opinion at Mayo and he told me I have AS and severe fibromyalgia and past the point of treatment. Yay me so still with pain management and he is awesome as is my pcp. Good Dr.s
