A.S. Face 1355: Michelle Austin
My name is Michelle Austin, I am twenty eight, and I am from Ohio. My father and I both have Ankylosing Spondylitis. When I was fourteen I had gotten iritis but, was not diagnosed with A.S. I didn’t really start having joint problems till I was nineteen. My fiance had just passed away and I was all on my own. It had got so bad I went to the hospital and they finally diagnosed me. My rheumatologist got me on Remicade. Even though this helped I was still unable to work. I was taken off remicade and put on Indocin. Indocin does work for me most days. It has given me a couple of ulcers though. Hopefully one day there is cure!

Dear Michelle,
Thank you so much for sharing your story with us.
Sincerely Cookie
Thank you Cookie for taking the time in doing all you do. I was wondering if you still give out the bracelets or is there a way I can purchase one?
Thank you so much, please email me at cookiehasas@aol.com about the bracelets. Sincerely Cookie
I took Indocin sustained release for a long time. Please take it with food and drink plenty of fluid. I had ulcers too as well as esophagitis. It’s a good drug, but it can affect your kidneys. I pray that you will be able to get funding. I am not trying to be funny, but try Obama care.
Thank you Marcella. It was the same drug my dad was on. I get blood tests all the time for my kidneys. I’ve also recently found out its probably the reason I haven’t had kids yet. I wish you and your family all the best.
Thank you for sharing you story Michelle! Do try swimming if you haven’t already. It has been very helpful for me in the past 7 years. (Diagnosed at 19, I’m 38 now)
You are amazing I have the same issue as you and I’m 16 just found out two weeks ago… Your story inspires me not to give up…just keep going!
