A.S. Face 1224: Chris McKenzie
Hello, my name is Chris McKenzie and I have AS. I was diagnosed about 8 years ago and I distinctly asked my Rheumatologist to give me at least 1 year of pain management so I could play with my daughter. This simple request is all that I hold on as I deal with this disease. I got my one year and have been managing my pain ever since and going as strong as I can. AS essentially ruined my sports career in my early 20’s, but at that time they didn’t know what was wrong with me, probably just like the majority of people that are “finally” diagnosed. I suffer, just like everyone else does. However, recently I have tried to make everyone aware of our disease by wearing the shirt attached on my picture when I run or walk in events. I encourage people to ask me about what I go through on a daily basis and to learn more about AS. Not only do I wear this shirt for myself, I wear it for the rest of us whom suffer as well,
and so does my biggest supporter, my daughter.
Thank you for listening to my story.
