Dennis Walter – Quinlain, TX

Diagnosed on 03/28/2014

I am a father of a 9 year old boy and 14 year old girl and have been married 14 years and live on the outskirts of the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex. I am a software developer and love my job I working on mission critical applications very day that enable our clients to solve global issues like poverty, poor water and natural disasters so in a way it more than a job to me but more of  a way for me to help the world with my given skills.

My story started when I was a child with at the age of about 6 I was diagnosed with Legg-Calvé-Perthes disease is a rare disease of the hip. Have this as a kid gave high pain tolerance I was always told I may get arthritis in my hips from it so I ignored the pain in my hips for over 10 years think that all it was. Over the last 6 year I have been expiring fatigue that get so bad I have had to pull over on my way to work and take a nap just to be able to function. I went to my PA at the time told them about the fatigue and a pain I was having in my leg that got  worst when I laid down to go to sleep she thought it may be restless leg syndrome and/or sleep apnea did blood work and sent me for a sleep study. The result came make all normal and when I said what about my leg pain and all she said was there is no sign on inflammation and she left it with that. Then I started developing a recurring skin rashes that I was told it was everything from cellulitis, scabies, to shingles. After a few months of this I was referred to a dermatologist how a few test ran did a skin biopsy gave me a skin cancer scary. When I went for my follow up everything was normal on the test and then the DR told me I was lucky I had a skin condition that I could control if I just stop scratching I was never told by him what he thought it was in until I saw my record at another dr office at it was list as ‘Prurigo nodularis’ that did not match. With still know answer to why I had the fatigue or rash I did some research and this lead me to search out a rheumatologist thinking maybe it was ‘Lupus’ or ‘Behcet’s Disease’.  He did some blood work and X-Rays most of the blood work came back ok other the one that showed I was HLA-B27 Positive. On my follow up he look everything over and tells me it most likely AS and then puts me on ENBREL. Tells me the he can fit everything but the skin rash. At first I questioned the diagnosis until I found this site and I started to read the stories I was able to relate in so main ways I read one where there person said they us to pray the light did not turn red because of the pain a I have the same issue .

The symptoms that I know that relate to AS

Uveitis – 2 times

Sciatica – 6+ times

Lung Nodule

Neck pain – Everyday

Lower back pain – Everyday

Elbow pain – Everyday

Knee pain – Everyday
