A.S. Face 1202: Christina DelGallo

Face 1202

Christina: Massachusetts

My name is Christina DelGallo. I’m 33yrs old. I was diagnosed with AS in January of 2014. I was also diagnosed with Crohn’s disease 3yrs ago.

I’m currently living in Massachusetts with my husband & my 1yr old son. I have probably had AS for the past 15yrs without knowing & it’s possible it caused the Crohn’s disease. I have suffered with hip, back, & neck pain for at least 15yrs. The main reason I think it took so long for a proper diagnosis was due to the fact that around the same time my symptoms started I was in a bad car accident. So for years doctors & myself always attributed my back issues with that previous accident. Little did I know the damage that was really happening inside. I gave up on doctors ever helping with my back issues because I never seemed to get anywhere with it. Fast forward to 2011 when I got diagnosed with Crohn’s disease after finally being convinced by my family that there was serious cause for concern with massive weight loss(with trying to keep weight on), hair loss, no longer getting my monthly cycle & bloody stools. I got treatment for the Crohn’s & went into remission within 6mos. Yeah!! I went off meds & got pregnant with my son. Throughout the years still trucking along with the back & hip issues. I finally lost all mobility of my neck & decided to give 1 more doctor a chance since I couldn’t live like this anymore especially caring for a baby. Also, my Crohn’s had come back with a vengeance 4mos after giving birth. I finally got a great team of doctors working together. They put 2 & 2 together & finally got my diagnosis of the AS. I cried & wished I was going to hear is was just a surgery to fix my back/neck but it was this. I’m still coming to terms with this disease but I know I can & will fight for my health & for a better quality of life for me & my little family!

  2. Hi Christina, i felt the same when i found out. It was like there was going to not be any way to get better… a feeling of being condemened even. However , life goes on, and you just have to suck it up and do the best you can do, as you say “for your self and your family ” . I hope the fight goes well for you , good-luck 🙂
