A.S. Face 1160: Angel Amyot

Face 1160Face 1160aHere is my family the first photo is of me and my oldest daughter she is 18. The seconded is of my other two children my son is 16 and my baby girl is only 14. We all suffer from ankylosing spondylitis. We only found out about this three years ago when my son started having lots of problems with his joints. I was a young child and always sick. My mother would take me to the doctors they would do blood work and check me then tell my mother it was all in my head. I grow up thinking there is something wrong  with me and I am going to suffer with this all my life just because my brain doesn’t work right. So when my son started I fought the doctors and told them to check again because he was not faking it to miss school or get attention. Then it really got bad for him his knee became three time the size it was supposed to be and you could cook and egg on it that is how hot it got. The doctors had no more choice they had to find out what was going on. It took us three years but finally found out he had A.S. At this time the doctor because it was not the doctor I had as a child did a full work up on me. I was diagnose with fibromyalgia as well of some form of arthritis they just were not sure what at the time. Well that was the start now we know me my son as well as my two girls have a.s. Now we just found out my mother has been ,mist diagnose they had told her years ago that she had osteoporosis they just gave her the same blood work for the HLA-B27 and she is positive just like me and two out of three of my children. My name is Angel Amyot been fighting doctors most of my life. I am now fighting with school to make them understand what we go throw on a daily bases. I am 37 years old and live in Ontario Canada and this is my story

  1. Dear Angel,
Thank you so much for sharing your story with us.
    Sincerely Cookie

  2. G’day Angel,
Thank you for sharing your story, unfortunately it’s an all too familiar one of classic misdiagnosis and doctors that just don’t listen. Hopefully one day we will have a standard test for early detection, a cure would be better, but it would be a good start.
Anyway, welcome to the list, a wonderful source of information, inspiration and some bloody good stories of hope.
    Cheers
    Rick,
