A.S. Face 1047: Cindy Angone LaLonde
I’m a 56 year old mother of two incredible, grown sons. I have suffered from symptoms of AS since I was a young child, approximately 10 years old. The AS started in my knees where as a kid, I would ache with discomfort and pain for days. As I grew up, my heels were then affected as well. Now AS is in my lower lumbar and in my cervical neck and left shoulder blade.
Many doctors, over the years, attributed this to a variety of illnesses; flu, arthritis, fibromyalgia etc. It wasn’t until I met a doctor’s physicians assistant who listened to my reported symptoms and put it all together. Sure enough I tested positive for AS and will start with Rheumatologist for monitored visits.
I am finally relieved that a name has been attached to this. A doctor that I did see, before this diagnosis, told me that my symptoms were psychosomatic. He told me to go see a psychiatrist, which I did. Upon doing so, it was suggested that I seek a new doctor and get evaluated with ample blood work and x-rays. I did and now we have an answer. It was not in my head!
I am relieved and excited to get the assistance that I need; my last flare-up, in my lower lumbar lasted from May to August. It was so, so painful and difficult. Now, the pain is not as present and I’m getting the proper help I need. I am so thankful and grateful!
My suggestion to others who have been hindered by the medical profession not addressing their illness properly is, “do not give up” and “please listen to me” when meeting with their doctor. Become aware of the symptoms (I was not) and become aware with AS overall (I’m doing that now).
Blessings and Hugs and Hope for Recovery,
