My name is John Thomson I am 56years old and I was diagnosed with A S In 1976 aged 19, first started getting pains in my legs when I was 14. My disease now is near the end stage. I just wish some of the treatments that we have now were around back then.

Dear John,
Thank you so much for sharing your story with us.

John: Can you tell me what you mean by ‘your disease is now at end stage?’ I am very concerned. I am 52 years old and suffering with this disease. It is getting to be a struggle to go to work every day. If you feel up to it, could you share a little more? God bless, and thank you! Stephania (Face #445)
Hi Stephania. First I would like to say sorry, I never seen your message till tonight.
When I said the end stage I was meaning that most of my body has fused and that can’t be reversed, things like my neck,
ribs, pelvis, I have had two hip replacements it also affects my knees, ankles, shoulders, but I still try and not let it get me down.
Everybody goes on about exercise and they should because keeping your joints mobile does help, I was still paying football at 47.
I don’t work anymore but the good thing is that I can still drive and I love photography and I have a great wife..
If you take anti TNF drugs they say it’s good at slowing the disease down and controlling the pain, I don’t take anti TNF because they can’t undo the damage
that’s been done in my case.
I know you’ll get pissed at the AS some days but don’t up.
Hope this helps in some way.
John 🙂
