A.S. Face 0987: Nancy Hart
Nancy Hart, age 48, Narcoossee, FL
I was just diagnosed a month ago. I’ve had fibromyalgia for over 10 years. Widespread pain even longer. I am an elementary school teacher. I’ve taught from PreK to 3rd grade, starting 1st grade this year. I have a 20-year-old son and will have been married 29 years this November. We also have 3 dogs-Brutus, a Mastiff/Labrador mix; Freckles, a Beagle mix; and Monte, a Chihuahua/Min. Pinscher mix. All rescues and all loved as part of our family.
I have good days and bad days–more bad lately. My x-rays show a lot of growth around my spine. My hips, knees, shoulders, elbows, neck, back, feet and hands are all affected in some way. I still manage to get up every morning around 5:30, get to school around 7:30 and dance, and play and smile and sing my way through every day due to my wonderful, understanding and loving students, colleagues and husband. My husband and I spent a week in NC this past summer and climbed 2 mountains and walked miles of trails.
I usually crash into bed exhausted every night, sometimes feel like crawling to my car when my feet feel like there are knives and broken glass under them–But— I wouldn’t trade a minute for my blessed life.
I am strong. I am independent. I have A.S. but it doesn’t have me!
