A.S. Face 0706: Chelsea Breaux
My name is Chelsea Breaux. I am 22 years old, live in southern Louisiana with my husband and our 2 dogs, and I am the face of Ankylosing Spondylitis. I was diagnosed about a month ago. My doctors believe I may have something else alongside the AS, so we shall wait and see. My journey started when I was in 3rd grade and was diagnosed with Osgood-schlatter’s Disease. After a few years of suffering with that I went into “remission” (til I was about 15 yr. old) then I started to have pain in my knees again. This time it was different though because I was also experiencing pain in my lower back and all over. Since my knees were always such a big deal I didn’t pay much attention to my back pain and continued going to doctors just for my knees. After about 6 years of not getting any answers and being completely frustrated I decided I would just go to a rheumatologist and start from scratch. Forget the past and move on with what I was feeling now. After 6 months of the doctors thinking I had Lupus, but unable to get a clear answer. After several rounds of blood work, x-rays and MRIs they diagnosed me with AS. I am a new patient to this disease, but I am keeping a positive outlook. My husband and family are very supportive and we all look forward to the future. Of course I have my fears about medications and how debilitating this can become. Also I keep forgetting to ask my doctors, how genetic is this disease? If I was to get pregnant would my child definitely have AS? Thanks for listening and God Bless!
