A.S. Face 0702: Engku Iskandar Engku Zahit

I had constant backpain since my univ years (20’s) but never knew anything about ankylosing. I got no idea about ankylosing and the doctors just prescribe me painkillers. My friends notice my posture had gone weird. I thought maybe problem with my pillow. I always had 2 pillow when sleeping and most of the time, I got pain when get up in the morning. This continues for 10 years.

One day in 2009 when I drive to my workplace, I feel terrible pain behind  my neck and can’t turn my car steering properly. Thus I went to my office panel clinic and they refer to an orthopedic at local hospital. It was then, after 10 years of severe back pain and funny look by people, the doctor said it is confirm I had an Ankylosing Spondilitis. Looking at the X ray of my spine, it clearly show the “bamboo spine” look like.

From then, I still rely on painkillers till today. What I feel most disturbing and uneasy is how people look at me and ask if i had an accident to have a posture like this. When ever I met new people or old friends, I got this kind of question and when I mention ankylosing, they just seem blur.

I am professional photographer, I always met new people in the line of my duty. I feel great when found this website. I want everyone know what is ankylosing spondylitis is.

  2. Hi! 🙂 My Ankylosing Spondylitis started when I was 23 and I am now 40 years old. Keep staying positive and always have a motivation in life for each day….what we accomplish each day is a “thank you” to God for each breath we take!! Keep smiling! Faith, Hope & Love…its all we need! I have not yet wrote a blog about myself but I will be sure to do so…take care and God Bless 🙂
