A.S. Face 0643: Tami Ardans-boot

SAMSUNG

My name is Tami and I really can’t imagine what anyone would want to read on here that hasn’t already been said.  For starters, I am a mom of three of the most supportive grown children anyone could ever hope or be blessed to have. They have never once doubted my pain or my limitations and have always encouraged me to keep on trying to do what I can and maybe a little more.  They have been there through the hardest times as well as the good times and I am so very thankful to have them. I love you Jay, Jon and Chelly ❤

I have had pain issues mainly in my back since I was a teen. Before that, I could break a bone by basically doing nothing. My energy level has never been high. I was one who could easily sleep 12-18 hours a day.. (and still can!  he he) No one could find out what was going on with me.  When I was in my mid 20’s I was tested for auto immune disorders but nothing showed up with any certainty and it was all dismissed.  By my late 30’s I noticed it was harder to walk and do things others my age could do with ease. I was finally diagnosed with osteoarthritis and osteopenia at this time, however, nothing was done about either.  I just kept going on as best I could until about 2 years ago when I found an amazing family doctor. He stopped at nothing to find out what my body was trying to tell me. He believed me when I said the pain was exhausting, he believed me when I said something’s wrong and never once did he ever doubt me.  I was referred to a rheumatologist finally who had images done of my back and eventually found that I did have AS.   The past 6 months have been the hardest for me. 2013 was a major change year. I had finally gotten it through my head that I could no longer work full-time and something had to give.  I have had wonderful friends who have been my major supporters (along with my amazing children) and have walked with me through my new journey.  It’s not been an easy road, its been one fraught with pain, emotional as well as physical, but, I know that with the support system I have in my friends and family, as well as Cookie and her followers, I will be just fine. I am truly blessed.  Out of a bad and sad situation comes a silver lining and its in the form of this site. Awareness is key.  Thank you, Cookie, for your vision. You are truly my inspiration with your compassion and positivity even in the face of adversity. You are definitely blessed, cherished and loved.

Thank you,

  3. Tami. You, cookie, and every face of AS are inspirations. Everyone that continues to carry on despite the pain and limitations we suffer is a hero in my book. We all have our bad days, months, and maybe even years, but we choose to fight back and not give in, we choose to live on for our wonderful family, friends, and loved ones. We spread the word about this terrible condition so that others may know. Bless you and every other Face of AS.
