A.S. Face 0628: Will McKay
I’ve had AS for the past 7 years. Living in Kitchener, Ontario with my 11 yr old son, I am now 31, turning 32 in December. The AS effects my spine right from my skull down and into my hips and across my shoulders and arms. My feet are swollen up almost twice the size and throb constantly. I’ve been off work for the past 1.5 yrs while my doctor tries humira..again. :s . I can’t sit upright for more than 1/2 hour before I have to lay down, exhaustion is horrible. I’ve had to come to terms with not being able to mountain bike anymore or spending the day at canada’s wonderland or even taking a hike in the woods with my son without pain. I now take each day as it comes, planning for events or anything in the future is a crap shoot as we all know LOL. Thanks for reading, cheers to one day finding us a cure.
Dear Will,
Thank you so much for sharing your story with us.
Sincerely Cookie
Hey Will, nice meeting you, i totally agree thats it’s pretty hard to accept doing stuff differently. I’ve learn to manage my energy and encourage you to give a try. Still à work in process. Wish you better days in plenty. Welcom
Hi Will. Ten years ago I had to give up mountain biking and skiing, But that doesn’t mean we have to give up on nature and being outdoors. Find that favorite woodsy temple, drive there, and love it. We might have to cancel dreams of seeing a lot of places few people ever get to see…but maybe we can focus on the little beauty in our favorite temple. The river is my rythm, the wind my melody. I love my woods. In an imperfect world, it’s nice to spend some time with the visible proof of God’s perfection. I know I go back home feeling better. I bets it’s beautifull in Ontario about right now.(probably won’t be in a couple months though eh!, just like here in South Dakota). I hopes the Humira works this time…
Thank’s Derek, I get out to the woods around town and to the beach in the summer time as much as I can. I find it incredibly peaceful with no one around, it eases my soul so to speak. The trees are amazing right now. Not looking forward to winter at all.
