I have related to the struggles and trials of the participants, and am generally inspired to keep pushing on.
I am an engineering physicist working in aerospace since about the time my axial pain began right after graduation 35 years ago. Of course it was always attributed to mechanical strain, and given no treatment except analgesics &muscle relaxers. Things came to a head however when at 51 yoa I acquired severe scleritis. I continued working and was referred to rheumatology where I was diagnosed with AS and given biologics. It took 5 years to get the eyes under control, and have some permanent vision loss, not to speak of the continually increasing axial pain. We have some top-notch specialists here in Texas who are active in AS research. So I am in an AS gene study at UT.
There is definitely reason for hope on the horizon.
Keep up the good work.

Good, we need some new hope. Thanks
Brian! I am in Baytown, I was just talking recently about checking out the UT rheum department. I think I am going to give them a go. Anything you can tell me as to who to talk to would be appreciated. Thanks, Suzanne
So sorry to have missed seeing your request, Suzanne. Reyna Chavez or Laura Diekman should be able to get you in. Since I am a research subject instead of treatment patient at UT, I am uncertain of correct contact.
Dr. Reveille is a great researcher to see and very knowledgeable about every aspect of the disease. I highly recommend those folks and commute over from Austin.
Welcome to the group, Brian! I wish you all the best. Stephania
Dear Brian,
Thank you so much for sharing your story with us.
Sincerely Cookie
Mark is so right; Dr. Reveille is one of the top AS researchers. He is very sharp, and works hard to find the cause and more effective treatments. I am especially grateful for the referral to Houston’s only Occular Immunologist, Dr Susan Wittenberg. For AS treatment I highly recommend Clear Lake Rheumatology.
Besides dr. John Reveille I’m wondering who these top notch researchers are in Houston? I sure would like to know cuz I live in the Houston area and I haven’t found a rheumatologist worth anything here.ps YES Dr.Reveille is the best dr.ive ever seen he diagnosed me when I wasn’t living in this state in 2013 unfortunately he’s not my Dr
