A.S. Face 0500: Rest In Peace…

This spot was reserved for someone who had struggled with Ankylosing Spondylitis, who I carry in my heart with every Face I add. With each letter I type on this site, he is with me. Rest in peace and may you know that you are never far from our thoughts.

Just as Ankylosing Spondylitis left a hole in his family’s heart, it leaves one in The Faces of Ankylosing Spondylitis also.

Dedicated to those who have battled, do battle and will battle Ankylosing Spondylitis and to those who silently suffer along side us.

Death leaves a heartache no one can heal,

love leaves a memory no one can steal,

 we will never forget.

To live in the hearts we leave behind is not to die.

Rest In Peace

  1. I think this is the most beautiful story I’ve ever read. (Hold on a sec…I’ve got something in my eye…must be hayfever season). I’ve got to say a prayer right now. Cookie, you know Jesus is beside Stuart right now, and they’re smiling together. There can’t be many times in ones life where we can witness with such clarity the shining light of pure goodness- but I think this is one such moment. Not many times will we ever get to see such painfull darkness transformed into such light and goodness. We are witnessing something people, and whether you believe in God or not, it’s something that is pure good and completely void of evil. Perhaps this is the kind of Love that Jesus spoke of? I don’t know about you, but I’m gonna bask in it for awhile.

I want to thank you Stuart. Thank you for all the lives you’ve touched. I want to thank you for the AS lives that have now touched me because of you. Because of you, these new sun beams of light are now streaming into the dark room that used to be my life with AS. And just as the sun rises out of the darkness into the morning sky, with every new AS FACE my room gets brighter. Every day, in a crazy way, I get a little more happier that I got AS.

I want to thank you Stuart for giving God the chance to work through Cookie-who should now be at peace knowing that her life was obviously shaped to be his servant in this. A beautifull compassion was borne of all your suffering big sista (what do ya have now, like a hundred facebook freinds you talk with every night!). I want to thank you Stuart for giving the rest of us the chance to let God work through us in our small way. Finally, I want to thank you Stuart, and your family, for letting God work through you to shine that love into a lot of dark rooms! I know you will, and I pray your family will, know of all the pure goodness that was multiplied many, many, many times from your suffering.

This brought tears to my eyes, as well as Face 500 and all the other ones I have read. You have created a place where we can feel hope through our own trials and not feel alone. Chronic Illness can be so isolating as you feel that no one else understands. Here you have a created a whole website of people who DO understand. They understand the pain, the appointments, the missed activities… Thank you! From the bottom of my heart… THANK YOU

  3. Rest in peace Stuart. Your time here on earth was a blessing from heaven. You now look down on all us keeping a watchful eye.

  4. I’m so proud of what you have done Cookie. I have gone back and read many of the comments Stuart shared and feel like I truly understand his pain. I am thankful for so many things but common friends with AS that can relate and offer me strength are my greatest assets. I hope Stuart is at peace and pray that others are there for one another so we never have a tragedy like this again.
