A.S. Face 0475: Stormy Bingham

My daughter and I (I’m in the blue)

Actually for as long as I can remember I have been in pain. I remember waking up for school and my mother sitting at the table with aspirin asking me what hurts today? Like I was making it up. I’ve always had some type of stomach pains. IBS but never confirmed. When I was in my 20’s, I had no ideal Ankylosing Spondylitis and Fibromyalgia was my problem. I was depressed because I was unable to be the best parent to my children because I was always in pain. I lived in my room because lying down is my best pain relief. I tried working but was never able to work for very long. Working at Walgreens is the longest I have ever held a job. (4 years in June) I hurt but just thought it was something my body would adapt to but never did.  It was working with Walgreens doing the CCR program (traveling and remodeling stores) that I discovered my illness. I feel that lifting the shelves and moving as much product as I did set me into a downward spiral. I am now unable to perform my job duties and trying to find a better fitting job.

My Symptoms: Upper back pain; like by the interspace of shoulder blades close to the spine. Lower back pain; mostly on my left side, into my hips and down my legs. My left leg has spots that go numb as does my left arm. My left knee will lock and swell where I can’t bend it. At night-time the joints in my knees, ankles and feet hurt. My ankles swell up just if it’s too warm out or if I stand for longer than about 30mins. If I stand for longer than 30 minutes, I get sever hip pain shooting into my back that brings tears to my eyes. That starts my left leg going numb as well. I have pain in my left breast upon bending a certain way or touching it wrong. My chest hurts at times and basically feels as if an elephant is sitting on it. My lower back feels like it’s swollen and as if there’s a knife in it, or a bag of rocks

Current Medications:

Ibuprofen 800mg  – 1 tab. 2x a day

Gabapentin 300mg  –  1 capsule every 8 hrs.

Hydrocodone / acetaminophen 7.5-500 t  – 1 tab. As needed for pain not to exceed 3 a day

Tizanidine  4mg  – 1 tab. Every night at bedtime Changed to Cyclobenzaprine 10mg 2x a day as needed for spasams (June 11, 2012)

I have had SI injections ~ 2x into my left hip and 1x into the right.

I will be getting radiofrequency injections soon to both sides. (July 11, 2012 for the first left side)

  3. Thanks it helps just knowing theres realy a problem and its not all in my head.

  4. Hi Stormy. I can sense that your daughter has been a great supporter, confidant, understander (is that a word-it is in AS speak) and best freind. That makes me feel better about your situation.

It also looks like you’re just “at the beginning” of your treatment journey. And that makes me feel A LOT better too. There’s a lot more “stronger” medicines out there than ibuprofen. You’ve got another dozen options to exhaust before you need to feel hopeless. It’s all about Hope. If that one doesn’t work, then I hope the next one does, and if that one don’t, then I hope….
