A.S. Face 0181: Nikki Bass

Name: Nikki Bass
Location: East Texas
Diagnosed with AS in March of 2011
A little about my fight with AS:
I began having joint pain when we had a set of 2 yr old triplet foster children. Thought my body was just trying to tell me that I wasn’t 20-something any longer, boy was I wrong.
Shortly after my first dr appointment and before the blood test results even came back, I tripped over one of the babies and to avoid landing on her, I landed totally on my left knee. While wearing the immobilizer I developed at DVT behind my left knee. (another clue) Began a series of INR tests every other day and was taking coumadin daily. Three months later, I was seeing a Rheumatologist, diagnosed with AS and beginning the routine that many of us go through, trying this med and that until something offers some relief and some of the inflammation reduces.
The majority of my pain has been in my back and both hips (SI joints). I am currently taking (among lots of other meds) methotrexate weekly and remecaid infusions every 6 weeks. I just had an intrathecal pain pump implanted and that has helped tremendously. Just beginning my AS journey, but unfortunately this disease makes us experts very quickly.
