A.S. Face 0020 : Deanna Williams

I am 27 years old. I’ve just been diagnosed with AS in June this year, even though I’ve been in pain since my late teens. Let’s just say that I’ve learned a whole heck of a lot about myself in the process. I’ve learned that most days I CAN deal with this.  I’ve learned that a good laugh will help make it better, for a little while at least. I’ve learned that it’s okay to FIRE a doctor.

I’ve learned that “…those who mind don’t matter and those who matter don’t mind.” I’ve learned to make the most of every moment, even if I’m riddled with pain. I’ve learned that I have the best friends in the world. I’ve learned how to answer the “1-10” pain level scale. I’ve learned that a good number of people in the medical field know as much about AS as I did before I heard about it, NADA. I’ve learned that saying “Ankylosing Spondylitis” five times fast should be the new tongue-twister. I’ve learned that I CAN fall in love. 🙂 I’ve earned that I AM capable to be loved. 🙂 I’ve learned that some people just don’t get it, and that’s okay. I’ve learned that I’m STILL trying to get it myself. I’ve learned to live life day by day. I’ve learned that I have a passion for sharing this with people, and being there for others “blessed” with AS. Yes – I said blessed! I am certain we have AS because we are strong enough to deal with it!

I love your positive attitude. Took me many years to get there. I am glad you were able to get there at a young age.

  8. Loved this! It’s definitely ok to fire a doctor, especially when he/she is not doing all they can to help you. That’s one big thing I’ve learned, advocating for myself. Because in that exam room, no one else will do it for me
